Kőszeg at the Austrian border is a notable historic town. Its narrow, winding streets boast of many historic monuments. In 1532, Turks, moving against Vienna, were held up here by Miklós Jurisich. The image of the main square named after Jurisich is still dominated by houses of medieval origin. The permanent exhibition in the castle displays, how people lived and waged wars in the Middle Ages.
