Debrecen

Debrecen, the third largest city in Hungary, is the centre of the Tisza Region. Being also the seat of Hungarian Protestantism, it is often referred to as "Calvinist Rome". The Classicist style Main Church (Nagytemplom) has no match in the country. The numerous universities, academies, colleges and professional schools have turned Debrecen into the country's most important educational centre (Kossuth University of Sciences, Medical University, Academy of Agriculture, Theological College).

University campuses, clinics, college buildings, complemented with sports facilities, are now the most notable features of the whole Nagyerdo district, a certain kind of garden suburb. The Déry Museum has a remarkable collection of archeological finds coming from the Orient. What also deserves attention is the permanent exhibition displaying the history of Debrecen.
